Mooncakes are surprisingly similar to beef wellington. So if we can fill mooncakes with ice cream, caviar and custard, why not beef?
For Phoebe Chan, founder of Phoebe's Kitchen, the idea of the mooncake wellington came to her naturally - Hongkongers love beef wellington and mooncakes presented an opportunity for her to put her culinary skills to the test.
"For many, a mooncake wellington is still a very fresh and compelling concept so I'm delighted to be bringing it back for the second year," she said.
This year, Phoebe's Kitchen has expanded its range to include salmon. Its mooncake wellington is available in a bow with two pieces of the same flavor (HK$258).
Chan has also collaborated with Grand Hyatt to transform Tiffin's classic beef wellington into mooncakes (HK$990 as part of its Steakaction menu).
Another place to get beef wellington mooncakes is Steak King, Its wagyu beef wellington mooncakes (HK$888 for four) is made with muni wagyu tenderloin.
