Tencent's (0700) co-founder and chief executive Pony Ma Huateng is set to open The Róng Museum of Art in 2027, a 4,500-square-meter new cultural landmark in Shenzhen's Nanshan District, which will explore the relationship of art and technology.
The Róng Museum of Art, which is commissioned by Tenova Future, a private venture of Pony Ma, will also be part of the mixed-use Houhai Hybrid Campus - one of Shenzhen's newest and most prestigious commercial centres, where Swire Properties' (1972) The Upper House Shenzhen is planned to open in 2027.
In the same district, the other Chinese tech giant JD.com's (9618) new headquarters is planned to include the JD Museum, which is set to launch in late 2027.
These projects reflected Nanshan's broader push to build itself not only as a sci-tech innovation hub but also a cultural center within the Greater Bay Area.
Last year, the district became China's first district‑level economy to surpass 1 trillion yuan (HK$1.13 trillion) in gross domestic product.
