Volunteer teams from Towngas and the Water Supplies Department joined hands to prepare handmade “blessing turnip cakes” for residents of Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po as part of Lunar New Year outreach efforts.
On the evening of the 24th day of the last lunar month, members of the Towngas Volunteer Service Team and the Water Supplies Department Volunteer Team gathered to make traditional Chinese turnip cakes, accompanied by handwritten New Year “fai chun” prepared by Towngas staff.
The festive packages were delivered to Wang Fuk Court residents currently residing at the Hong Kong Housing Society’s Yue Ying Lau, sharing warmth and seasonal blessings ahead of the Year of the Horse.
Towngas also purchased turnip cakes from a local fast-food group and distributed turnip-cake coupons through social welfare organizations to Wang Fuk Court residents living in different districts, extending its New Year greetings beyond Tai Po.

The volunteer activity was led by Towngas Head of Corporate Affairs and Government Relations and Head of Extended Business Catherine Wong Pui-yee, Director of Water Supplies Roger Wong Yan-lok, and Hong Kong Housing Society Social and Elderly Wellness Director Dr Carmen Ng Ka-man.
“Towngas has always cared about the community. Every year during different festivals, we provide support to those in need and share festive food, such as rice dumplings and mooncakes. As this New Year marks the first anniversary of the collaboration between the Towngas Volunteer Service Team and the Water Supplies Department Volunteer Team, we have once again joined hands to send festive blessings and encouragement for Wang Fuk Court residents,” Wong said.
Volunteers rushed to the Towngas Cooking Centre after work to prepare the turnip cakes together, infusing each box with what organizers described as love and care. For residents, enjoying the traditional delicacy was not only a festive treat but also a reminder of community support and solidarity during the holiday season.
