The Chinese University of Hong Kong has announced the election or appointment of six new University Council members, each with a one-year term.
Dr Benedict N.Y. Sin, director and general manager of Myer Jewelry Mfr. Ltd., has been appointed on the nomination of the colleges' boards of trustees and committees of overseers, effective February 2. Current Council member Dr Wong Chung-kiu was also reappointed through this process.
Two members were elected by the heads of the original colleges, Shaw College and the masters of the additional colleges: Professor Stephen H.S. Wong, head of United College, and Professor Anthony Chan Tak-cheung, master of Wu Yee Sun College, effective January 19.
Two more were elected by the deans of faculties and the graduate school dean: Professor Tang Xiaobing, dean of arts, and Professor Zhou Lin, dean of business administration, effective January 22.
Dr Sin is also an independent non-executive director of King Fook Holdings Ltd. and holds accounting and legal qualifications in Australia, England and Wales, and Hong Kong.
