A three-year-old girl, the victim in a suspected child abuse case in Ngau Tau Kok, had reportedly told family members that she was hit by her class teacher in the restroom, police’s ongoing investigation revealed on Thursday.
Police said they received a report on Wednesday morning from the K1 student’s grandmother, who suspected her granddaughter had been abused after the child complained of abdominal pain and nausea.
According to the grandmother, bruises measuring about 2 cm by 1 cm were found on the girl’s abdomen around ten days ago, but the class teacher had never mentioned the incident.
Officers arrested a 27-year-old female teacher on the same day for “ill-treatment or neglect by those in charge of a child or young person.” The case is being investigated by the District Investigation Team 6 of the Sau Mau Ping District.
The girl was sent to United Christian Hospital for examination and treatment, accompanied by her grandmother.
Pario Kindergarten, operated by the Hong Kong Christian Service and located at Lower Ngau Tau Kok Estate, said it will fully cooperate with the police investigation and place students’ safety as its top priority.
