Police in Yau Tsim District issued more than 155,000 tickets for illegal parking in the first nine months of this year, generating nearly HK$50 million in fines.
The figures were revealed as Yau Tsim police, in collaboration with Kowloon West Traffic, launched an anti-illegal parking operation on Monday (Oct 27) targeting traffic black spots across the district.
During the operation, officers issued 1,073 fixed penalty tickets and towed six vehicles that were causing serious obstruction.
The operation also led to the arrest of a 45-year-old Thai man holding a Hong Kong identity card and a 49-year-old local man for offences including driving without a licence, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without third-party insurance, and riding a motorcycle without an approved protective helmet.
According to police statistics, Yau Tsim District recorded 1,341 traffic violations through video surveillance and issued 155,650 fixed penalty notices as of September.
With each fixed penalty notice set at HK$320, the total fines amounted to approximately HK$49.8 million.
