A startling video of a seemingly nude woman racing up an escalator at Macau’s Portas do Cerco checkpoint has taken Hong Kong social media by storm, blending shock and humor in equal measure.
The clip, posted early Monday on a popular online forum, shows the figure gripping the handrail while hurrying toward the border exit, alone on her escalator as adjacent ones teemed with travelers.
The footage, just seconds long, ignited a wave of online reactions. Netizens speculated wildly, joking that the woman had lost her clothes to a gust of wind or a disastrous casino run, with some humorously referencing tales of gamblers fleeing Macau penniless.
Others suggested she might be wearing skin-toned yoga pants, mistaken for nudity in dim lighting.
Practical questions also surfaced, with users wondering how someone without attire or identification could navigate immigration.
Macau’s Public Security Police Force clarified that the 25-year-old local woman was not staging a stunt but had suffered a medical episode.
The incident occurred around 10pm on October 5, when she ran naked from Praça Das Portas Do Cerco to the border entrance.
She stumbled on the escalator, injuring her forehead, and was promptly aided by officers who took her to a hospital for treatment. No criminal activity was suspected.
