Direct cross-border coach services between Zhuhai Jinwan Airport in Guangdong and Hong Kong International Airport officially commenced operations on October 9, linking Zhuhai’s airport with both Hong Kong’s airport and urban areas.
Operating via the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge (HZMB), the service offers 14 round trips per day across four routes connecting Zhuhai Airport with Hong Kong International Airport and downtown Hong Kong.
The journey between the two airports takes around 1.5 hours, while trips between Zhuhai Airport and Hong Kong city take about two hours.
Passengers can purchase tickets through the WeChat public account “Trans-Island Chinalink” or directly at service counters.
The transfer desk and transit lounge are located in Terminal 2 of Hong Kong International Airport and operate from 9am to 11pm, providing rest areas, travel consultation, and cross-border connection services.
The Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) said that check-in services will be introduced in phases under future plans. Passengers will eventually be able to check in for flights departing from Zhuhai Airport while in Hong Kong, monitor real-time flight information for mainland destinations, and complete cross-border connections via a dedicated channel.
The new direct passenger service aims to establish a cross-border transportation model integrating Hong Kong’s network of over 200 global destinations with Zhuhai’s domestic flight resources — creating a “land-air integration and seamless connection” between the two cities.
“The two airports can form a mutually complementary cooperation mechanism,” said Qiu Changxian, general manager of Hong Kong & Zhuhai Airport Management, who estimated that daily transfer passenger numbers could exceed 5,000.
Qiu added that as demand grows, the company will consider introducing more vehicle types, including larger coaches, to improve passenger comfort and cater to different travel needs.
Meanwhile, William Ho, executive director of corporate development at AAHK, said that with increasing use of the HZMB and growing cross-border travel, exchanges between Hong Kong and Zhuhai are expected to deepen.
He said the new service not only offers passengers a more convenient and high-quality travel option but also strengthens economic and transport ties between the two cities, facilitating resource sharing and coordinated development between the airports.
