The admission rate for bachelor's degree programs via the Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS) is 36 percent this year, lower than in previous years.
Approximately 15,500 students were admitted to bachelor's degree programs under the System. It was learned that the number of applicants increased by over 3,600 compared to last year, making the competition more intense.
Over 4,900 students were admitted to bachelor's degree programs funded by the Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors (SSSDP), representing an annual increase of approximately 10 percent.
Regarding the top 16 scorers of this year's Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (DSE), the Chinese University of Hong Kong has granted admission to seven individuals for its medical school program.
The University of Hong Kong has accepted five top scorers, while the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology has admitted three.
The results of the JUPAS application were announced at 9 am this morning. The JUPAS Office stated that as of the beginning of this month, there were a total of 43,269 JUPAS applicants, of whom 15,808 have been formally admitted.
After deducting UGC-funded Higher Diploma places, it is estimated that approximately 15,544 applicants were offered bachelor's degree programs from the eight government subsidized universities or the Hong Kong Metropolitan University, representing an admission rate of roughly 36 percent, a decrease of approximately three percentage points from last year.
Regarding bachelor's degree programs funded by the SSSDP, 4,904 applicants were admitted under the System this year, an increase of approximately 10.4 percent from last year.
A record-breaking 16 students from 14 schools became the top scorers in this year's DSE, while local students also achieved outstanding results in this year's International Baccalaureate (IB) examinations, with at least 29 candidates attaining the maximum 45 points.
