Five major outdoor facilities in the North Garden at Kai Tak Sports Park (KTSP) will gradually open to the public for enriching sport experiences promoting sports for all.
The new facilities include beach volleyball courts, covered courts, hard-surface tennis courts, a climbing wall and a children's playground inspired by the Five Elements of Chinese philosophy.
The 15,000-square-foot covered hard-surface courts are suitable for emerging sports and could be configured for futsal, handball, or divided into nine pickleball courts.
Kennedy Lai Kong-ip, founder of the China Hong Kong Newly Emerged Sports Association (NESA), emphasized that the North Garden facilities will alleviate space shortages for sports development.
Additionally, he expressed hope that more citizens will engage in sports, boosting the city's vitality.
There are also three standard hard-surface tennis courts located outside the Kai Tak Arena, covering an area of over 24,000 square feet.
Hong Kong women's tennis team captain Lynn Zhang Ling was invited to test the soon-to-open facilities, praising the park's design that encourages public participation in sports through diverse programs -- including the National Games -- which offer a seamless transition from spectating to active involvement.
The beach volleyball courts are covered with soft artificial sand and are equipped with spectator seating, shaded rest areas, and cooling mist systems, meeting international standards.
As for the 4,000-square-meter children's playground, it is one of the city's largest and features a 15-meter-tall torch-shaped tower with a spiral climbway, allowing children to climb up and enjoy a panoramic view of the entire playground.
Meanwhile, two climbing walls, measuring 10 meters and 17.5 meters in height, will provide training spaces for enthusiasts, with the 17.5m wall becoming Hong Kong's tallest covered climbing facility.
