The Li Ka-shing Foundation has donated cutting-edge Histotripsy devices, which offer non-invasive liver cancer treatment, to the University of Cambridge and Stanford University School of Medicine.
At Cambridge University, this donation represents a European first, introducing Histotripsy technology to the UK's National Health Service through Addenbrooke's Hospital. The revolutionary ultrasound-based treatment, which destroys tumors without invasive surgery, is expected to begin helping NHS patients as early as this summer.
The Foundation also donated a second Histotripsy device to Stanford University after their four-decade partnership. Its contributions included establishing the Li Ka-shing Center for Learning and Knowledge in 2010, funding numerous translational medicine initiatives and specialist training programs, and endowing the Li Ka-shing Professorship of Cardiology, among others.
