Fire breaks out at Causeway Bay serviced apartment

A fire erupted at a serviced apartment building in Causeway Bay on Thursday afternoon, sending thick plumes of smoke billowing across the district.

Police received multiple reports around 3pm today about the blaze at Apartment O on Hoi Ping Road, with witnesses describing hearing explosions during the incident. 

Footage circulating online showed black smoke engulfing half of Causeway Bay, with some social media users calling the scene "extremely intense."

Firefighters rushed to the scene and deployed one water jet and a breathing apparatus team to battle the flames. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Transport Department announced the complete closure of Hysan Avenue in both directions between Leighton Road and Yun Ping Road due to the emergency. Authorities warned of heavy traffic in the area and advised drivers to use alternative routes.
