The legal action comes amid long-running rumors linking Chau to high-profile relationships and controversies, bringing the actress back into the spotlight despite her focus on a serious acting career.
Chau, who debuted in 2008, quickly rose to fame with her bold persona. Her breakthrough came in 2009 with her first photo book, Kissy Chrissie Saipan, which showcased her figure and sparked widespread attention. Rumors of breast augmentation and provocative promotional poses kept her in the public eye for years.
Chau later transitioned from modeling to acting, appearing in several films and earning a Best Actress nomination at the Hong Kong Film Awards, marking her shift toward a more serious acting career. In 2013, she appeared in Stephen Chow’s film Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons, successfully entering the Mainland Chinese market.
Chau has also faced challenges on the business side of her career. In 2018, she filed a lawsuit against her former management company over unpaid fees totaling HK$3.55 million. The dispute was settled out of court in 2020, after which she founded her own studio and later signed with Sky High Entertainment, under actor Louis Koo Tin-lok’s management, to further her film career.
High-profile relationships and ongoing rumors
Throughout her career, Chau has repeatedly been linked to high-profile romances and rumored affairs, despite publicly maintaining that she is single. Her only acknowledged relationship was with hairstylist Avis Chan Wai-shing, which lasted six years until 2013. Source says that while working overseas, Chau discovered that Chan had brought model Vivian Lo Choi-ling home, sparking their eventual breakup. Chau, however, stated publicly that the split was due to a lack of communication.
Since then, she has been rumored to have been involved with several celebrities, including actors Bosco Wong Chung-chak and Dickson Yu Tak-shing, film producer Charlie Wong, pop star Show Lo, footballer Rio Ferdinand, and South Korean star Kim Jong-kook.
Chau has often addressed these rumors lightly or dismissed them as work-related publicity. In 2019, she clarified that the rumored “romance” with Yu was simply a close friendship between neighbors. Similarly, alleged meetings with Lo and Ferdinand were publicly denied or explained as casual encounters.
Chau’s response to the lawsuit
Chau responded positively on social media for the first time on Friday night (Feb 13), stressing that she has never met Lee and denying any attempt to gain publicity from the lawsuit. She also said she has suffered from false reports and online bullying herself, and has now instructed lawyers to review Lee’s claims and follow up on legal proceedings.
