The website of the private office of Sheikh Ali Al Maktoum, who has been revealed as a popular singer and belonging to a distant branch of the ruling family of Dubai, has gone offline.
The website had a list of staff for his family office and photos of Sheikh Ali attending different events.
Last month, the sheikh from the United Arab Emirates told Bloomberg in an interview that he planned to set up a family office with US$500 million (HK$3.9 billion) in Hong Kong.
At the time, Sheikh Ali was called the nephew of Dubai's ruler Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, by various media including Bloomberg.
The prince was invited to the Wealth for Good summit in Hong Kong on March 27, a high-profile event organized by the Hong Kong government to attract family offices to the city.
But the same night, Sheikh Ali abruptly announced delaying the opening ceremony of his family office scheduled for March 28 to May.
Sheikh Ali was later revealed to hail from a "distant branch" of the ruling family. He was also found to be a popular singer who went by the name of Alira, with a fan base in the Philippines.
He was earlier appointed as an honorary professor of the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong but the related press release was later deleted.
Last month, Hong Kong's government said it had helped 58 family offices to settle in the city or expand their business.
