The world’s largest gambling hub reported September gaming revenue of MOP 18.29 billion (HK$17.75 billion), down 17.5 percent from August, according to the city’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau.
Cumulative gross gaming revenue for the first nine months reached MOP 181.34 billion, up 7.1 percent year-on-year but still 17.7 percent below pre-pandemic levels.
The Bloomberg Intelligence index of Macau casino operators rose 3.75 percent last month, lagging Hong Kong's benchmark Hang Seng Index, which climbed 7.1 percent over the same period.
Investment bank CLSA had earlier estimated that super typhoon Ragasa would reduce Macau’s gaming revenue by about MOP 880 million.
Analysts said gaming activity could pick up during the National Day Golden Week in October. Citi noted that large-scale events and concerts remain key drivers of Macau’s gaming growth, with the NBA China Games — featuring the Brooklyn Nets and Phoenix Suns — scheduled to hold two preseason matches.
