3 dead in abseiling accident in Jiangxi, Xinhua reports

Three people died during an abseiling activity in Jiujiang, Jiangxi province on Saturday, according to local authorities cited by Xinhua News Agency.

The incident occurred in Hukou county when outdoor sports enthusiasts were abseiling, also known as rappelling. An investigation into the specific cause is underway.

Unconfirmed online reports suggest the accident may have been caused by the collapse of a rock used as an anchor point for the rope, causing the three participants to fall.

Abseiling is a high-risk outdoor adventure sport that involves descending vertical cliffs using specialized equipment, requiring advanced technical skills and gear.
