The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) said a supervision mechanism is in place to manage the orientation activities organized by students after one of the camps sparked criticism recently as some freshmen made fun of the name of the dismembered model Abby Choi Tin-fung.

According to sources, a group of freshmen reportedly from the Department of Mathematics used Choi's name in conjunction with steamed chicken feet and spareribs rice as their group name during an orientation camp held a few days ago.

The incident was revealed on social media pages, immediately stirring up strong criticism and disapproval online.

Some criticized the students for disrespecting the victim in the brutal case while transgressing the moral bottom lines.

In response, CUHK stated that faculties, colleges, and administrative departments have been working together to assist and guide the orientation camp organizers in organizing meaningful and enriching activities.

It emphasized that a supervision mechanism and support system have been in place to manage student-organized orientation camps, where all the orientation camp organizers and participants have to follow university rules, orientation regulations, and the university Code of Conduct.
