Hong Kong Red Cross hosts orienteering competition to raise awareness on climate change

The Hong Kong Red Cross will be hosting the second edition of its annual “Red Cross City Challenge” event this year to raise public awareness of the disasters brought about by extreme climate change, as well as enhance disaster response and preparedness knowledge.

"The 2nd Red Cross City Challenge" will take place from March 1 to 3 this year. With the theme of "Rebuild Life, Rebuild Home", the event encourages public participation to help displaced people rebuild safe and warm homes, bringing hope to them through humanitarian services.

Stephen Ma Chak-wa, chairman of the organizing committee of the event, said this year’s challenge invites the public to venture into the heart of the city, experience the impact of natural disasters, and at the same time, understand the work of the Hong Kong Red Cross in assisting affected people in their recovery process.

Those interested in joining the challenge can sign up online. The event is divided into several categories including Open Group, Corporate Group, Senior Group, Youth Group and Family Group. Participants will receive a race pack, including a special design T-shirt, a Tote Bag, and a commemorative medal, and will be able to freely choose their start time within the event dates as long as they complete the missions within 180 minutes.

Throughout the event, participants will find themselves in various humanitarian rescue missions and challenges in a simulated disaster scenario, allowing them to experience the difficulties faced by disaster victims.
