A woman was charged by the Independent Commission Against Corruption for allegedly calling on others online to cast invalid votes.
The woman Yeung Sze-wing, 51, faces one count of engaging in illegal conduct to incite another person to cast invalid vote by activity in public during election period, contrary to the Elections (Corrupt and Illegal Conduct) Ordinance.
Yeung was brought to the Eastern Magistrates' Courts this morning for plea.
The anti-corruption watchdog’s investigation found that Yeung reposted on a social media page an online post that incited others to deal with their ballot paper in any way that would render it invalid.
The online post was initially published by disqualified former District Councilor Leos Lee Man-ho on his personal social media page during the election period, calling on others to boycott the polls.
Yeung allegedly added a caption to the post inciting others to write their names and identity card numbers on the ballot papers, rendering them invalid.
In view of the social media post, a warrant for Lee’s arrest was also issued by a Magistrate upon the application made to the court by the ICAC after Lee had left Hong Kong.
