The woman named Ng published a Facebook post yesterday that she has been desperately searching for her beloved snail named “boy boy” after losing the animal while riding on the MTR from Prince Edward to Kowloon Tong at around 6pm that day.
The woman said the snail was carried in a small Ziplock bag, which the bag also contained a pink elastic wristband and a brown lucky charm.
“I understand that not everyone likes snails, but ‘boy boy’ meant a lot to me,” she wrote, adding that she first found “boy boy” at a busy bus stop.
“There is one time that ‘boy boy’ fell from height and broke its shell and recovered from it by luck. I hope this time will be the same that I could again save his life.”
She also called on anyone who had information or may have picked it up to contact her at 92885442 or 52828643.
The snail in question is identified as a Giant African Snail, a highly invasive agricultural pest known to feed on over 500 varieties of plants.
Earlier this year, a doctoral student was arrested for animal cruelty after allegedly pouring salt over snails to kill them. But in Hong Kong's neighboring city Shenzhen, health authorities encourage citizens to do so for protecting the environment.
