The government has approved the redevelopment plan for the Mong Kok Flower Market, which is expected to provide 1,350 residential units, the Urban Renewal Authority announced Thursday.

The project will cover a total site area of about 316,000 square feet.
The redevelopment involves six sites, five of which border existing buildings in the area between Yuen Ngai Street and Flower Market Road.
The sixth site, adjacent to Sai Yee Street, Boundary Street, Mong Kok Stadium and Flower Market Road, is zoned for "Other Specified Uses (Mixed Use).”
The project will involve 275 households and 33 businesses, including 20 flower shops, which account for 17 percent of the total shops in Flower Market.
The URA plans to acquire ownership of 190 old building at an estimated cost of HK$2.5 billion, with offers expected to be made within 11 months.
