The parade, which was organized by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, started in Hung Hom at 9.30am this morning and made its way through Jordan Road, Nathan Road and Canton Road.
Riding on a large blue open-roof double-decker bus, the athletes waved at eagerly waiting residents along Nathan Road and Canton Road.
A blue banner reading “Hong Kong Athletes, Our Pride” was hung on the side of the bus.
Double silver medallist and swimmer Siobhan Haughey and Hong Kong's bronze medalists - karateka Grace Lau Mo-sheung, as well as table tennis players Doo Hoi-kem, Minnie Soo and Lee Ho-ching - were all featured in the parade.
However, Hong Kong’s golden fencer Edgar Cheung Ka-long, bronze medallist and cyclist Sarah Lee and epee fencer Vivian Kong Man-wai were absent, as they are preparing for the upcoming National Games on the mainland.
The athletes, including Haughey, took selfies with citizens, putting smiles on everyone’s faces.
The parade came after the SAR recorded its best-ever performance at the recent Olympics, with a historic six medals: one gold for Edgar Cheung, two silvers for Siobhan Haughey and bronzes for Grace Lau, Sarah Lee and Doo Hoi-kem, Minnie Soo and Lee Ho-ching.
