Transporting Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers to the bustling world of 1960s Hong Kong, Hong Kong Ballet reimagines “Romeo + Juliet” by infusing the narrative with a local flavor, bringing the Western classical tale of young love and loss to life.

It will showcase traditional kung fu street battles and lively mahjong games, as well as glamorous cheongsams.
In the neon glow of old Hong Kong, the city’s warring families become the stage for the timeless tragedy. Juliet’s father, a powerful Shanghainese tycoon, is determined to marry her to a wealthy gweilo, without knowing she has fallen for the only son of his enemy.
The performance runs until Sunday at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, with tickets from HK$260 to HK$1,200.
The show was also presented as the opening program of 'Hong Kong Week 2025@Seoul' at the National Theater of Korea in September.
Previously, HKB brought China’s own Romeo & Juliet, “The Butterfly Lovers,” to New York audiences in August, setting a new box office record for the “Image China” brand established by the China Arts and Entertainment Group.

As Christmas Eve approaches, Western holiday magic will be weaved with the charm of early 20th-century Hong Kong as Septime Webre’s heartwarming “The Nutcracker: A Hong Kong Adventure,” returns from December 12 to 28, presented by HKB. Tickets, priced from HK$180 to HK$1,200, are on sale at Urbtix.
In addition, HKB invites audiences to an immersive experience that redefines the boundaries of ballet – a performance with no physically present dancers.
The 57-minute show, "On The Other Earth," features the world’s first 360-degree stereoscopic LED film screen, surrounded by an eight-meter-wide and four-meter-high cylindrical structure, displaying a panoramic 3D image. It's expected to be presented in Tai Kwun next year.
