In a violent incident at a Jewish synagogue, a suspect attempting to force his way inside was confronted by Greater Manchester Police.
The attacker was not carrying a firearm, leading officers to open fire to prevent him from entering the building. This rapid response, while aimed at protecting those inside, appears to have had devastating consequences for at least one victim.
Investigations suggest one of the two deceased victims had wounds consistent with a gunshot, likely from police fire, as the suspect was unarmed.
Among the three injured, another person sustained a non-fatal bullet wound.
Both victims hit by bullets were believed to be near the synagogue’s main entrance during the chaotic confrontation, though it remains uncertain whether the gunshot directly caused the death.
Police have emphasized that the only gunfire came from officers acting to neutralize the threat, indicating that the victims’ gunshot injuries were likely an unintended and tragic outcome of the emergency response.
