Two Japan Ground Self-Defense Force members die during training

Two Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) members were found dead during a training exercise in Oita prefecture on Monday, military officials confirmed.

The soldiers, belonging to a tank unit stationed in Oita, went missing while participating in reconnaissance and infiltration drills. Their bodies were later discovered at the training ground without visible external injuries, according to the Yomiuri Shimbun.

The JGSDF has launched an investigation into the cause of death. The incident occurred at a military exercise field where the tank unit was conducting routine training operations.

Kyodo News reported the deceased were active members of the armored division. The Defense Ministry has not released further details pending notification of families and completion of the ongoing probe.
