At least 38,983 Palestinians have been killed by Israel in the ongoing attack on Gaza since the Hamas militant group attack on Israel on October 7, according to figures from Gaza's health ministry,
The majority of those killed have been civilians, including women and children. In just the past 24 hours, the latest data from Gaza's Ministry of Health indicates that 64 more Palestinian lives were lost. Those killed on Sunday join the thousands of others who have died as a result of Israel's wide-scale military offensive in densely populated residential areas of Gaza.
In response to the Hamas attacks, Israel has carried out airstrikes and shelling across Gaza. But human rights groups have condemned the indiscriminate nature of the bombings, which have targeted apartment buildings, schools, and hospitals. Over 89,000 additional Palestinians have been injured over the past months, according to the ministry.
The high civilian death toll lays bare the human cost of the conflict on innocent Gazans. As the fighting continues now for ten months and four days with no signs of abating, many remain trapped in the crossfire with dwindling access to food, water, and medical supplies. The violence has further destabilized the already dire humanitarian situation in the blockaded Gaza Strip.
