Xinjiang forced labor claims untrue, says China

China said today that politicians in the United States are fabricating news of forced labor in the northwestern Xinjiang region, after Washington banned imports of cotton produced by the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps (XPCC) alleged to use the forced labor of detained Uighur Muslims, Reuters reports.

Speaking at a daily media briefing, foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said the U.S. practices undermined market principles and would deprive people of jobs.
