The 28-year-old mother, Natallia Tarrien, shared her life-changing moment with an AI chatbot during her eighth month of pregnancy on Instagram, receiving over 3 million views.
Experiencing swelling in her face and limbs during her late pregnancy, the mother consulted her doctor and was reassured that her symptoms were normal.

However, she felt tightness in her jaw later that night and casually asked ChatGPT, “Why does my jaw feel tight?”
“Check your blood pressure,” the bot advised.
Not expecting the seriousness of the symptoms, the mother followed the AI chatbot’s advice out of curiosity, only to find alarming results—a blood pressure reading of 142/109.
After reporting the climbing numbers back to ChatGPT, she was urged to call for an ambulance.
Upon arrival at the hospital, her blood pressure had skyrocketed to 200/146. Doctors diagnosed her with pre-eclampsia and rushed to deliver her baby.
Despite the successful delivery of a healthy baby boy, the mother’s blood pressure continued to rise for five days, and she experienced blurred vision shortly thereafter.
Fortunately, the mother eventually recovered, recounting the doctor said, “If you had gone to sleep that night… you wouldn’t have woken up.”
The mother expressed gratitude to the AI chatbot for serving as a lifeline for both her and her baby, noting that she would never have imagined that mild symptoms could lead to such a critical situation.
However, she also emphasized the importance of seeking professional medical advice at any sign of unusual symptoms.
Tarrien’s story quickly gained online attention, with some praising AI’s capabilities while others questioned its reliability in medical diagnostics.
According to a study from the University of Western Canada in 2024, it is revealed that ChatGPT's accuracy in diagnosing 150 medical cases was only 49 percent, significantly lower than that of human doctors.
Acknowledging that AI should not replace medical professionals, the mother underlined the technology could only serve as an aid, helping individuals recognize problems and take necessary actions.
Common symptoms of pre-eclampsia
Pre-eclampsia is a serious pregnancy complication, which typically occurs during the second half of pregnancy (around 20 weeks).
The three main symptoms are high blood pressure reaching 140/90 or higher, excess protein in urine due to kidney problems, and sudden swelling of the face and limbs, particularly around the eyes and fingers.
Other symptoms may include blurred vision, severe headaches, or pain in the upper belly. Pregnant women who develop these symptoms should seek early medical assistance to avoid worsening complications.
