The Hong Kong government is expected to streamline procedures and offer direct land grants to attract industries to the Northern Metropolis, according to local media.
This comes before the 2025 policy address, to be delivered on Wednesday, which reportedly has a major focus on accelerating the development of the Northern Metropolis.
The report, citing sources, said authorities have received expressions of interest from various mainland and overseas enterprises eager to establish a presence in Hong Kong.
To accommodate urgent demand, the government suggests that companies consider existing industrial sites within the Northern Metropolis area – including Yuen Long InnoPark, Fanling, and Tai Po industrial zones – or initially locate in Science Park and Cyberport before moving into dedicated Northern Metropolis industry land in the future.
Sources added that the Northern Metropolis industry land is designed to be flexible in usage. For instance, automotive manufacturing – classified as an advanced industry – would be permitted on innovation and technology sites.
