It has been revealed that jockey Vincent Ho Chak-yiu was sent to intensive care on Sunday night and remained there last night after suffering neck fractures and a head injury in a race fall earlier that day at Sha Tin.
Ho was one of four riders who spent Sunday night in hospital after two separate incidents and the rider, who suffered a fractured vertebrae in a race fall in Japan in August 2023, will again face a period on the sideline.
A Jockey Club statement yesterday said Ho's injuries "are expected to heal with conservative management" and that "he is expected to be discharged from the ICU to the general ward within the next 24 hours."
Champion jockey Zac Purton is expected to be sidelined for between four and six weeks after he underwent surgery to have a pin inserted in his broken left big toe yesterday afternoon.
"I've got a fracture in my heel which is not much of a problem, a little bit of ligament damage in my ankle and my big toe is broken," he said. "It's pointing at a bit of an angle so it needs to be realigned and pinned to hold it in place."
Officials said Angus Chung Yik-lai was discharged from hospital yesterday but will also spend between four to six weeks on the sidelines as he recovers from facial fractures suffered in a fall. He does not require surgery.
Keith Yeung Ming-lun was able to walk away from his fall but will still miss between two and three weeks after bruising to his left shoulder, thigh and buttocks.
