Hong Kong athletes delivered strong performances across multiple events at the Para National Games, securing a series of impressive results.
In the women’s 200m individual medley SM14 final, Cheung Ho-ying and Chan Yui-lam swept gold and silver, respectively.
Leveraging her strengths in butterfly and backstroke, Chan pulled three body lengths ahead of Cheung by the 100m mark, then maintained her lead through breaststroke and freestyle to touch first.
Cheung clocked 2:34.54 to take silver, while teammate Lau Chiu-yee finished fourth.
After the race, Chan said she felt she had gone all out tonight. Having already competed in two earlier events, she felt calmer and won’t set overly high targets for the remaining races – just to do her best.
Cheung said she was satisfied with her performance, adding that she, Chan, and Lau each broke a national record, which made her happy.
Earlier yesterday afternoon, the pair also took the top two places in the women’s 100m breaststroke SB14 final. Cheung won gold in a national-record time of 1:19.51, with Chan second in 1:20.15.
Choi Chi-keung won bronze in the men’s 100m breaststroke SB14 final.
On the track, Yam Kwok-fan added to the medal tally with a silver medal in the women’s 200m T36 event.
In team competitions, the Hong Kong men’s bocce squad claimed a silver medal, while at the Ma On Shan Sports Centre, the joint Hong Kong–Macau team finished fourth in the women’s wheelchair fencing foil event.
The Hong Kong–Macau trio of Lam Ka-man, Yu Chui-yee, and Tong Nga-ting took turns on piste.
Opening fencer Lam edged the first bout 5–4, Yu then reeled off five straight hits to stretch the lead to 10–4.
Jiangsu steadily clawed back, overtook late on, and entered the final leg with a five-point cushion.
Anchoring for Hong Kong–Macau, Yu rallied with five consecutive touches to level at 40–40, but the team ultimately fell by four points.
Yu said in the post-match that she was a bit disappointed as she felt her technical execution and mindset faltered near the end, affecting her actions.
She hopes to reset quickly for upcoming events and noted the joint Hong Kong–Macau lineup reflects the Para and Special Olympics spirit.
Hong Kong’s men’s sabre team also fought hard but fell to Jiangsu, finishing fourth overall.
