HK's dynamic duo serve up tennis history in home Open

In another major milestone for Hong Kong tennis, dynamic duo Eudice Chong and Cody Wong Hong-yi thrilled a packed Centre Court with a stirring win to progress in the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open doubles for the very first time.

The victory came a day after Chong's landmark singles triumph over Dutchwoman Suzan Lamens to reach the round of 16.

Chong and Wong held their nerves during a tense tiebreak to defeat the top-seeded pair of Japan's Eri Hozumi and Chinese Taipei's Wu Fang-hsien 4-6, 6-4, 10-5 and progress to the quarter-finals. Their first WTA 250 tournament doubles win sent local fans in raptures.

"We have been working very hard over the last few months in preparation for this and the National Games in November, which I think has really shown this week," Chong said. "We have had time to get to know each other's game, and we played with a lot more aggression.”

Wong added: "This is our third time competing in the doubles at this tournament, and I'm thrilled that we finally secured a victory. Especially winning in front of my family and friends, it means a great deal to me."
