Iran strikes back at 'terrorists'

Iran's Revolutionary Guards have launched missile attacks on "terrorist" targets in Syria and in Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan region, state media reported yesterday.

The attacks destroyed "a spy headquarters" of Israel and a "gathering of anti-Iranian terrorist groups" in Arbil, the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan, IRNA news agency reported, quoting the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Four people were killed and six wounded in the attack, according to Iraq's Kurdistan security council.

A prominent businessman, Peshraw Dizayee, was among civilians who were killed.

Iraq condemned the "attack on its sovereignty."

It "will take all legal steps," including "lodging a complaint with the UN security council."

The United States condemned the attacks as "reckless," warning they undermine stability.

The Syrian targets included the "gathering places of commanders and main elements related to recent terrorist operations, particularly Islamic State."

The Guards' Sepah News service said the strike on Syria was in response to recent attacks by terrorist groups that killed Iranians in southern Kerman and Rask.

Explosions were heard in Aleppo and its countryside, where "at least four missiles that came from the Mediterranean Sea" fell.

On January 3, suicide bombers struck crowds gathered at the tomb of revered Guards general Qasem Soleimani in Kerman, killing 90 people in an attack claimed by IS.
