The Hong Kong and China Gas Company has implemented various climate resilience measures at the onset of the typhoon season, including enhancing flood prevention facilities at the Tai Po Gas Production Plant and introducing ultrasonic technology for pipeline inspections.
Following last year's super typhoon and torrential downpour, the company continues to conduct climate risk assessments and on-site inspections.
After identifying flooding and typhoon risks, the Tai Po Gas Production Plant equipped critical locations with flood gates and water pumps, along with an early warning system. Over the past two years, Towngas has invested approximately HK$1.9 billion in capital expenditures for plant equipment upgrades. The company introduced ultrasonic instruments to inspect pipeline conditions by deploying the "Internal Conditioning Robot for Steel Pipe."
Towngas also plans to gradually introduce and use zero-carbon fuels to replace fossil fuels, aiming to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
