People are closely watching the development of the Greater Bay Area and have taken a particularly keen interest in Qianhai, as it is a special economic zone within a special zone.

That's why Shenzhen Qianhai Authority's principal liaison officer for Hong Kong, Witman Hung Wai-man, has been getting more requests for information lately.

With its own policies in areas such as legal matters, Qianhai has attracted many multinational and Hong Kong enterprises to set up base there since its establishment as it continues to perfect its hardware.

It now has yet another goal - to draw more people to visit the area. One way to do this, Hung said, is to get Hong Kong's starred restaurants to open outlets there.

Commentators have been urging for the setting up of a consumer zone at the border to serve mainland customers whom wish to avoid overcrowding Hong Kong's urban center.

If Qianhai succeeds in attracting famous eateries to set up shop there, it would represent an even more convenient option for Shenzhen customers as they don't even have to cross the border to enjoy Hong Kong's offerings.

The operating costs in Qianhai could be lower than those in Hong Kong, but the customer spending power is not, so it is a venture well worth considering by the local catering industry.

As an avid foodie, this suggestion must be all the more appealing to Hung. To drive the idea, he would not only be sampling food, but writing about it too.

Chinese people have always attached great importance to food, hence we have a long-standing and well-established culinary culture.

Hung's plan to write his commentaries in English should be a good way to let foreigners learn more about this strongest soft power of ours.
