On the second day of hearings on Friday, the committee's senior counsel, Victor Dawes, presented video evidence to set the record straight, showing that Ho had been part of a team during the rescue operation.
The footage indicated that three firefighters had ascended together, with one—believed to be Ho—remaining behind to assist with the evacuation of residents.
The hearing was told that Ho later attempted to regroup with his colleagues but became separated amid the chaotic conditions. Earlier accounts had raised questions over whether he had acted alone or deviated from instructions, but the committee emphasized that his actions were part of ongoing rescue efforts.
According to the evidence presented, Ho had initially been assigned to proceed to a unit in Wang Cheong House but mistakenly entered Wang Tai House during the operation. He was later believed to have issued a distress signal, with findings suggesting he had attempted to escape from the 31st floor before falling from a height.
Counsel noted that the earlier opening statement had only outlined key and representative evidence due to time constraints, and that more detailed accounts would be examined as the hearings progress. The video shown today was intended to provide context and clarify misconceptions surrounding Ho’s actions.
The committee also stressed the importance of accurate reporting, acknowledging that the incident has deeply affected the community. It said that while it does not seek to influence media coverage, ensuring factual clarity is essential for public understanding of the tragedy.
