Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) has achieved remarkable success at the 51st International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva, clinching seven awards including the prestigious International Press Prize, two Gold Medals, three Silver Medals, and one Bronze Medal.
The winning projects demonstrate breakthroughs across health, artificial intelligence, sustainability, and advanced analytical sciences.
Among the highlights, the AI-powered fact-checking project by Assistant Professor of the Department of Interactive Media and Director of the AI and Social Good Lab of the AI Media Centre Li Yupeng has earned the International Press Prize and a Silver Medal for its ability to combat misinformation using multiple AI agents.
The technology leverages multiple AI agents to deliver trustworthy, scalable, and transparent automated verification of information, which enhances the trustworthiness of decision-making by media outlets, social platforms, financial institutions, and governments, ensuring the credibility of information transformation.
Another standout, the visiting assistant professor of the Teaching and Research Division of the School of Chinese Medicine Ashok Iyaswamy’s intranasal Alzheimer’s therapy, and assistant professor of Department of Chemistry Matthew Lui’s eco-friendly desalination process, both secured Gold Medals for their innovative approaches in healthcare and water sustainability.
Additional awards recognized advances in plant tissue imaging, insect-based plastic waste recycling, and rapid food safety inspection methods.
The Geneva event, held from March 11 to 15, brought together over 1,000 inventions from more than 40 countries, highlighting HKBU’s commitment to transdisciplinary innovation and societal impact.
