Lei Jun, chairman of Xiaomi Corporation and a deputy to the National People's Congress (NPC), emphasized the unique strategic advantages of Hong Kong during the ongoing "Two Sessions" in Beijing.
Highlighting the city's rich talent pool and its role as an international hub, Lei stated that effectively leveraging these advantages would undoubtedly lead to "remarkable achievements" in the technology sector.
He noted that Xiaomi has already established a significant foothold in the city, with 30 to 40 stores currently serving the market, primarily offering smartphones and home appliances.
Regarding the electric vehicle sector, Lei remarked on the rapid development of the industry in China, particularly in the realm of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs). He expressed confidence in Xiaomi's progress in both electrification and intelligent vehicle technologies.
When asked about the development of domestic semiconductors, Lei identified this as a key area of investment for Xiaomi.
He highlighted that the new mobile processor released in May last year was the first domestic chip manufactured using advanced 3-nanometer technology and confirmed that the company intends to increase its investment in this production sector further.
Lei also addressed the issue of soaring mobile chip prices over the past year. He explained that the explosive demand for Artificial Intelligence has caused a severe shortage of memory chips, placing significant pressure on Xiaomi's mobile phone business.
He assured the public that the company is exploring various methods to mitigate these costs and keep prices within a range acceptable to consumers.
