Xiaomi (1810) plans to step up investment in its electric vehicle business this year, targeting deliveries of 550,000 vehicles for the full year, founder Lei Jun said during the company’s first online livestream on Saturday.
Xiaomi delivered a total of 410,000 vehicles in 2025, far exceeding its original annual target of 350,000.
Lei said Xiaomi will focus on three core priorities. First, it will continue to invest heavily in technological research and development, committing at least 200 billion yuan (HK$222.83 billion) over the next five years. Second, the company will further increase investment in large artificial intelligence models. Third, Xiaomi will continue to build an integrated "Human × Car × Home" smart ecosystem to deliver a seamless user experience and pursue product excellence.
Lei denied rumors claiming that Xiaomi employs "7,000 legal staff". He said Xiaomi hopes to strengthen its legal team in the coming year and will take firm action against organized online smear campaigns targeting both the company and its vehicle owners.
Commenting on competition within the automotive industry, Lei called on both industry players and the public to move away from disparaging competitors and to respect differences in design philosophies. He noted that China’s domestic automakers have made rapid progress in recent years, and that comparisons should be made within the same market segment.
On the issue of small-print disclaimers in promotional materials, Xu Jieyun, general manager of Xiaomi’s public relations department, said earlier decisions were mainly made to comply with advertising regulations. He added that Xiaomi has already made corrections and has required all business teams to use larger and clearer text for explanations since November 2025.
The livestream mainly featured an engineer disassembling the newly launched Xiaomi YU7 on site, while responding to online rumors and directly addressing market concerns over automotive technology and safety.
