The 51-year-old suspect, diagnosed with schizophrenia a decade ago, allegedly attacked his 50-year-old wife during a morning dispute in their On Ting Estate apartment, inflicting over 20 stab wounds before igniting a fire. Investigators recovered a 28-centimeter meat cleaver, lighter and burned papers from the scene.
Neighbors reported hearing arguments and crying hours before the incident. Police believe the husband's actions resulted from emotional distress triggered during the confrontation. The couple's adult son has been studying in Germany for three years.
The suspect remains in custody while Tuen Mun district crime squad continues investigating the murder-arson case that left the convenience store worker dead with both stab wounds and burn injuries.
