Hong Kong athletes, including veteran rugby player Salom Yiu Kam-shing, have called on citizens to vote in the upcoming Legislative Council election on December 7 through a jogging event held on Sunday.
Organized by the Kwai Tsing Volunteer Develop Team, the event took place at the Tsing Yi Sports Ground.
Yiu said he has a preferred candidate and urged elected representatives to uphold their campaign commitments. “We hope that all individuals will engage in the electoral process and elect those who advocate for our interests and contribute to society.”

Former Hong Kong karate athlete Lee Chun-ho, who was raised in Kwai Tsing, articulated his expectations for the new Legislative Council to prioritize the development of the Northern Metropolis.
“I hope we will see an increase in sports facilities, which will attract more events to Hong Kong and subsequently enhance the local economy,” he said.
Leung Tat-wai, a former athletics representative, emphasized the importance of continued support for sports development.
Lai Ho-ki, a former marathon runner, utilized the marathon as a metaphor for the development of Hong Kong. “While the present may present challenges, I hope that the path forward will be favorable.”
He believed that participating in the vote is fulfilling civic responsibility to ensure that government policies better meet the needs of the people.
