Hong Kong’s hotel industry has reported a 10 percent increase in bookings through promotional packages and themed decorations, as the 15th National Games continue to attract mainland tourists to the city.
Sino Group's hotels have introduced 5 percent discounted offers for National Games attendees, available at The Royal Pacific Hotel, Hong Kong Ocean Park Marriott Hotel, and Hong Kong Gold Coast Hotel.
Certain hotels have also introduced themed rooms and partnered with travel agencies to offer packages that combine game tickets with hotel accommodations.
These measures have resulted in a booking volume increase of approximately 10 percent compared to usual days, with room rates also rising by about 10 percent.
A tourist from Shenzhen surnamed Hu expressed great anticipation for the National Games events and noted that the National Games-themed decorations in hotels would enhance the atmosphere and attract tourists to take photos and share them online.
Simon Wong Kit-lung, honorary chairman of the Institute of Dining Professionals, anticipates an overall business increase of about 10 to 20 percent, as the National Games is expected to attract a considerable number of residents and tourists.
Wong noted that restaurants near Kai Tak Sports Park will be the most immediate beneficiaries, while a boost in business is also expected near other competition venues such as Victoria Park.
However, he added that it is difficult to accurately predict the exact growth in customer flow and revenue, as this is the city’s first time hosting the National Games.
