A San Po Kong budget restaurant has been prosecuted by health authorities after a customer discovered a whole dead mouse submerged in her hot and sour soup.
The incident occurred at "Kwan Wu Dumplings King" on Yan Oi Street on Tuesday afternoon, when a female diner found the rodent at the bottom of her soup container. She immediately returned the food and received a HK$47 refund, but reported the incident to the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department over concerns about remaining soup being resold.
The department inspected the premises and found poor hygiene conditions with clear signs of rodent activity. Authorities have initiated prosecution against the license holder under the Food Business Regulation.

The restaurant, known for its affordable prices with noodle with two sides costing around HK$30, had been praised by netizens as a "lifesaver when money's tight." The license holder has voluntarily suspended business for deep cleaning and disinfection.
FEHD confirmed it will conduct follow-up inspections and pursue further prosecution if improvements aren't made. Under current regulations, food establishments must maintain cleanliness to prevent rodent infestation, with violations carrying maximum penalties of HK$10,000 fines and three months' imprisonment.
