A suspected child abuse incident occurred in Hung Hom. On Thursday around 5:57 p.m., a social worker reported at a clinic on Bailey Street that a 4-year-old girl was suspected of being inappropriately treated. Paramedics arrived at the scene. Although the girl showed no obvious injuries, she was taken by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for examination as a precaution and is reportedly required to stay for observation.
According to sources, the girl has been followed by a social worker due to delayed physical development and family issues. However, her 47-year-old female guardian (surnamed Cheung) recently failed to bring the girl to meet the social worker as scheduled. On the day of the incident, the social worker took the girl to the aforementioned clinic for medical treatment, accompanied by her grandmother.
During the consultation, the doctor noticed abnormalities in the girl's physical condition, suspecting neglect or disregard for her health needs, leading the social worker to report the case to the police. After receiving the report, police arrived to investigate. The case has been temporarily classified as "abuse or neglect of a child or young person under care" and handed over to the Kowloon City District Crime Squad Team 6 for further investigation. Details of the incident and responsible parties are currently under investigation.
