A 54-year-old man is facing legal action after allegedly swimming at a closed beach in Tuen Mun during the height of Typhoon Ragasa on Wednesday, prompting police to issue a summons for violating beach regulations.
During Typhoon Signal No. 10, authorities received a report of a man swimming at Golden Beach along Castle Peak Road, which had been sealed off for safety.
Police responded to the scene and issued a warning to the man, surnamed Tai, who subsequently left the area.
Following further investigation, officers from the Tuen Mun district applied for a court summons on September 26, charging him with breaching the Bathing Beach Regulation under the Public Health and Municipal Services Ordinance.
The law prohibits ignoring temporary beach closures, with offenders facing potential penalties of up to a HK$2,000 fine and 14 days in jail upon conviction.
