The organizer of the inaugural "Hot Air Balloon Fest Hong Kong" announced to offer full refunds for all ticket holders after admitting falling short of delivering the expected customer experience.
The decision came after disgruntled attendees were frustrated by unfulfilled promises of tethered rides and displays reduced to mere static balloons due to regulatory issues.
The curtain has fallen quietly at the controversial four-day Hot Air Balloon Fest at the Central Harbourfront on Sunday (Sep 7) as the evening session of the event as well as the associated Music On Air show were both canceled as Tropical Storm Tapah edged closer to the city.
"We appreciate our title sponsor AIA Hong Kong for their strong concern for customer experience and for reinforcing the importance of our role, as the event organizer, in making proper arrangements for affected ticket holders," organizer Grand Events Asia said in the statement. "As such, we have decided to offer full refunds for all HABFest tickets to express our sincere apologies and gratitude."
Full refunds are available for the tickets purchased through official channels, and the refund will be based on the actual amount paid at the time of purchase and will be calculated in Hong Kong dollars.

According to the Consumer Council, a total of 263 complaints related to the Fest were received as of 4 pm, totaling approximately HK$270,153.
Among the cases, the highest individual claim reached HK$10,000.
Meanwhile, the Customs reported receiving 45 complaints by noon on Sunday, stressing that enforcement actions will be taken if any violations of the Trade Descriptions Ordinance are found.
