Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu recently hosted a nostalgic reunion with American actor and comedian Jimmy O. Yang at government headquarters, where the two bonded over their connections to Hong Kong's prestigious Wah Yan College network.
The special gathering, revealed through social media posts by O. Yang's management company, brought together three distinguished Wah Yan alumni: Lee - a graduate of Wah Yan College Kowloon, O. Yang - from Wah Yan College Hong Kong, and the comedian’s classmate Nicholas Ho Lik-chi, Hong Kong's Commissioner for Belt and Road.
Photos showed the trio toasting with commemorative water cups from the “Wah Yan One Family" alumni organization.
During the warm-hearted meeting, Lee reportedly dug out vintage school yearbooks containing O. Yang's teenage photographs, including images featuring Ho.
The Chief Executive also shared his own pictures from the Kowloon campus archives. The three men spent hours reminiscing about school days and swapping anecdotes from their formative years.
Lee praised O. Yang's recent successful five-night stand-up comedy run at the Hong Kong Coliseum, noting how the performer's global appeal showcases the city's cultural vibrancy.
Lee noted that with Hong Kong’s new performance venues and improved booking systems, the city is hoping to attract more world-class artists like O. Yang to choose Hong Kong as their Asian tour stop.
O. Yang, who was born and raised in Hong Kong before immigrating to the U.S. during secondary school, has risen to fame in Hollywood as part of a new generation of Chinese-American comedians.
His homecoming performances last month marked a triumphant return to his roots, with all shows receiving critical acclaim.
