A total of 100 quotas will be allocated daily for vehicles to enter the urban areas of Hong Kong as part of the initial phase in implementing the Southbound Travel for Guangdong Vehicles Scheme.
Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan announced on Wednesday that the automated transit carpark at the Hong Kong Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) will open applications for Guangdong vehicles in November.
The visitor parking facility at the Hong Kong Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge artificial island is expected to open in the first half of next year.
The announcement came after Chan visited Guangzhou on Monday (Jun 30) to attend a meeting of the task force for collaboration on Guangdong-Hong Kong transportation with officials of Guangdong Province.
The government stated that both sides discussed ways to implement the Southbound Travel Scheme.
Over 100,000 vehicles have participated in the Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles Scheme since its launch on July 1, 2023, according to a government statement.
The usage of the HZMB also reached new highs, with its two-way vehicular flow totaling 450,000 vehicles in May 2025, equivalent to approximately 15,000 vehicles per day.
