Hong Kong, Macau and Guangdong will jointly host China's National Event on the Environment Day in 2026, officials announced Thursday during a ceremony in Chongqing.
The announcement was made at the 2025 National Environment Day event, where representatives from the Ministry of Ecology and Environment handed over the hosting flag to officials from the three regions.
The delegation included Guangdong Vice Governor Zhang Shaokang, Hong Kong Secretary for Environment and Ecology Tse Chin-wan, and Macau Environmental Protection Bureau Director Ip Kuong-lam.
Held annually on June 5, the National Event on the Environment Day is a major environmental awareness campaign organized by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the Central Office of Spiritual Civilization Construction, and local governments.
Representatives from the three regions said hosting the event demonstrates their commitment to ecological conservation, building a world-class bay area, and showcasing the strengths of the Greater Bay Area.
Under the guidance of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the three governments will collaborate closely to plan and prepare for the 2026 event, aiming to deliver a distinctive and high-quality program.
They also pledged to use the occasion to deepen cooperation on ecological and environmental initiatives, fostering an innovative and sustainable GBA.
