The Trump administration has considered limiting Chinese firms to buying 75,000 of Nvidia's H200 chips each, Bloomberg reported.
Shipments of AMD’s MI325 chips would also count towards customers’ quotas, the report said. These chips are primarily used to develop and run artificial intelligence models in the technology industry.
People familiar with the matter said the total shipments to China could still reach 1 million units, the cap previously set by the Trump administration during the regulatory process.
The single buyer’s cap of 75,000 units is less than half of the purchase interest privately expressed to Nvidia by companies like Alibaba (9988) and ByteDance, according to the report.
The outlook for US chip exports to China hinges largely on the outcome of US President Trump’s meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, with Trump seeking a deal on H200 exports to non-military Chinese enterprises.
